PHILOSOPHY

The Power of Gentle Touch + 🧠 Nervous System Facts

1. Your skin is wired for connection. We have specialized nerve fibers in our skin called C-tactile afferents that respond specifically to slow, gentle touch—not pressure. These fibers send signals straight to the brain's emotional regulation centers, like the insula and limbic system. 👉 Translation: Gentle touch literally soothes the soul.

 2. Touch activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Gentle, rhythmic touch (like what I do with my nails) activates the “rest and digest” mode in the body—called the parasympathetic nervous system. This helps to lower heart rate, reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), promote digestion and healing and regulate mood.

 3. Gentle touch increases oxytocin. Oxytocin is known as the “bonding hormone” or “cuddle chemical.” It gets released through soft, affectionate touch and helps to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, increase feelings of safety and trust. 👉 It’s the same hormone released during hugs, petting a dog, or skin-to-skin contact with babies.

 4. Scratching can trigger ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). This is that tingly, calming sensation some people feel in response to gentle touch or sound. It’s a real phenomenon that activates areas of the brain related to relaxation, reward, and sleep. Our nail-based body brushing offers natural ASMR therapy without headphones.

5. Touch is essential for mental health. Studies show that even just 20 seconds of soft, non-sexual touch a day can improve mood, lower feelings of isolation, help regulate trauma responses and helps support emotional regulation in people with anxiety, ADHD, or PTSD.

AND THUS -

The Art of Scratch was born out of something we all miss as adults: The calming, tingling, soothing power of touch.
The kind that makes your whole nervous system go… ahhhh.  I do this because we are starved for soft in a world that is hard.  Because this is my gift and I want to share it with those who need it—especially the ones who don’t know they do.  If you’ve never experienced it, come find out what your body’s been waiting for.

Helping You Feel Better

Still thinking WHY A SCRATCH?

Discover the Benefits of a Scratch:

Experience the release of endorphins that can alleviate pain and uplift your mood. Moreover, scratching triggers the brain to release serotonin, fostering mood stability and enhancing feelings of happiness and well-being. Serotonin's significance extends to the proper functioning of your digestive system and sleep cycles. Embrace this decision, and your body will thank you for it.
